Seriously. My boss remarked that New York acts like a Southern city when it comes to snowfall; this is probably the only occasion on which New York ressembles the South. My class was cancelled today on account of ‘inclement’ weather–it REALLY hasn’t been THAT bad. I am certainly not at the University of Minnesota anymore … an ice age couldn’t close that institution.

Red Velvet Cake. Yum.
Valentine’s Day marks a special anniversary for me: this time last year my mother bought me A Heart So White as a present. (My mother has a history of great Valentine’s gifts: when I was 16 she bought me a bottle of apricot brandy, but that is another story. Actually, it’s a really brief story and it goes like this: my mom’s awesome.) I can’t believe that my obsession is only a year old, I have already foisted that book on so many people. I can’t help it, I *love* Marias’s ghost worlds.
As it so happens, Marias is featured in the winter edition of the Paris Review. You might want to check that out. (Plus there’s a cute little wolf on the cover!)

What kind of an irresponsible mother gives a 16-year-old a bottle of brandy for Valentines Day? I don’t really remember that, but I suppose it’s true if you say so. Sadly, the memory is the second thing to go. I forgot what the first was…

It happened, lady. Believe me. (And, really, ‘irresponsible’ or *brilliant*?)

No way! Man, you people must have gotten buried! I hope you spent the day making snow angels and drinking cocoa. (That’s really the only sensible thing to do in such circumstances.) I miss you, Uncle Tim! I think I’ll be visiting in May, I look forward to seeing you then! Stay robustus.
